Apple interested in former LG customers

In the past, LG was a key player in the mobile market. But faced with competition from Apple, Samsung, and various Chinese brands, it ended up abandoning the smartphone market.

On April 5, in a press release, LG formalized its exit from the smartphone market. The process, scheduled to end on July 13,still in progress. But LG's customer base is already of interest to other brands. And among these, there is Apple.

Indeed, as LG prepares to turn the page, Apple has just updated its American site to list models from the Korean brand among those that customers can drop off at Apple to benefit from a reduction. In other words, in the USA, if you plan to replace your LG smartphone with an iPhone, you will benefit from a reduction thanks to the Cupertino company's trade in program.

The models concerned are LG V60 ThinQ 5G which allows you to have up to 180 dollars reduction, the LG V50 ThinQ 5G which allows you to have up to 125 dollars reduction, the LG V40 ThinQ which allows you to have 65 dollars reduction, as well as the LG G8 ThinQ which allows you to have 70 dollars reduction.

Although LG is not in the global Top 5 in the smartphone market, its shares cannot be ignored either. In the third quarter of 2020, the Korean manufacturer would have been the ninth largest in the world, with a volume of 9.3 million devices shipped. And besides, 5G smartphones continue to be quite popular in the United States. In the first quarter of 2021, LG was number 3 in the US market, with a 7% share of smartphone shipments.

The iPhone could even be sold in LG stores!

Apple is updating its site in the USA while rumors are also circulating regarding a possible partnership between Apple and LG in Korea. Indeed, the Cupertino company would also like to fill the void left by LG in this country.

According to a publication on the Business Korea site, negotiations are currently underway so that once LG exits the smartphone market, its stores can sell… iPhones. More specifically, there could be spaces dedicated to the Cupertino company's products in LG stores in Korea.

However, many points are still being discussed and at the moment it is unclear whether the two companies will reach an agreement. Indeed, it is Macs that would pose a problem.

In essence, LG would agree to sell iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches in its stores. On the other hand, the company would not wantMacs, since he also sells his own computers.

And of course, at the moment, this information is not official. Therefore, caution is required. But what is certain is that all of LG's competitors should be interested in the market shares that will be abandoned by the manufacturer.
