Many remember Steve Jobs who revolutionized the world of mobile telephony in 2007. At the time, multi-touch ontouch screenwas still only reserved for professionals and it was indeed after the keynote that the technology conquered the general public for the first time.
This phenomenon where aincremental innovationowes its success to the Californian brand could be duplicated again in the coming months, according to a patent published this week. This in fact describes a new foldable slab which would be more resistant and without loss of quality during use.
Originally a recurring problem
Today, most models available on the market (likele Escobaror the Mototola Razr which has just been released) are still expensive and face two risks:
- that of disappointing a user who is picky about aesthetics - a point on whichApple, a reference in design, cannot afford to ignore it - because of the fold, althoughthis does not interfere with daily vision on certain devices
- that of reducing the lifespan of the phone due tomechanismphysical which can alter over time, a source ofplanned obsolescence
Each of them would, however, have a simple solution, developed by Cupertino engineers. The principle? Make the screen (in black above) “more flexible” at the fold, accompanied by small flaps which allow it to expand and which retract when closing the mobile.
Nothing says whether this technique is likely to see the light of day. Nevertheless, it could be a real asset oniPad, to make the tablet easier to carry. So let's wait to find out more.
