Apple stopped offering iOS 15.6 for download a few hours ago. In short, users with an iPhone or iPad running a version prior to iOS or iPadOS 15.6 can only update their machine to iOS or iPadOS 15.6.1.
But that's not necessarily a bad thing. iOS and iPadOS 15.6.1close several major security vulnerabilities. It is therefore advisable, as usual, to update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version available.
Regardless, if you have updated your smartphone or tablet to the latest OS version number 15.6.1, you officially cannot roll back to the software version 15.6. As you can see, there is currently no way to install iOS or iPadOS 15.6.1.
This type of manipulation is usual at Apple. The Californian firm wants to encourage its users to update themselves with the latest versions of its software, in order to benefit from new findings in terms of security. At the same time, the company can inflate its statistical figures regarding iOS 15 and the number of devices running the latest version of the system available.
Please note that iOS 15 is reaching its final update weeks. iOS 16 will soon take over, just like iPadOS 16 for iPadOS 15. An iPhone keynote hasalready announced for September 7, iOS 16 should therefore arrive a few days after this date, around September 13.
