Apple sells all the time, even during the Covid-19 crisis

In a Canalys report, Apple would be the only phone manufacturer to have recorded growth in sales during the second quarter of the year. While the smartphone market collapsed by 14%, the Apple brand shipped more than 45 million iPhones, marking growth of 25% compared to the same period last year.

Another point in this ranking, Huawei would have sold 55.8 million units, which places the Chinese brand at the top of the ranking ahead of Samsung and its 53.7 million. But these figures are down, respectively by 5% for the Chinese company and 30% for the South Korean giant, which marks the biggest setback in its history. The increase in Apple sales can be explained according to Canalysby the release of the new iPhone SEwhich affects another clientele at Apple.

Amazing results for Apple

It is rare for Apple's figures to change so much during the second quarter. As the company does not present a new model, the sales figure remains similar to that of the first quarter. In this very particular context with the health crisis and confinement, an increase of 25% is even astonishing. But it is the new generation iPhone SE that has played the biggest role in this evolution. It alone represented nearly 30% of Apple's sales this quarter, while the iPhone 11, despite being the flagship model of the range, represents only 40% of sales.

A darker future?

In the second quarter of 2020,Apple has already communicated a turnover of 59 billion dollars, allowing the Cupertino company to generate a net profit of more than 11 billion. In the first quarter of 2020, the brand's turnover was $52 billion. If iPhone sales brought in 26 billion over this period, the Apple brand's next quarter could be the brand's first real stop. The iPhone 12 having been delayed by a few months, sales upon release will not be taken into account, and the figures may be less good.
