- Apple points to a July release for the Vision Pro developer kit
- The helmet should then cost more than 2,000 euros
- The final version will be available in early 2024 for $3,499
Were our predictions correct? While wevisionsJuly for the delivery of the first Vision Pro developer kits, it is precisely an executive from Apple, manufacturer of the headset, who seems to confirm the information on his Twitter account.Emanuel Tomozei, in charge of prototyping in augmented reality and virtual reality at the Apple firm, also refers to a page on the official Cupertino website clearly mentioning next month. In any case, it was on this date that a “assistance” for visionOS will be offered to publishers. Under this name hides the operating system of the mount, teamapps that we already know on macOS.
Since I’ve had quite a few people ask – it seems you will be able to apply for a#VisionProdev kit in July. More info belowhttps://t.co/pzsaBgqUz0

But then, in concrete terms, what is a developer kit? To find out, it is enough to look at the case ofvery first Mac with an Apple silicon chip. It was a Mac mini, also released in July and well before the final version intended for the general public, which arrived in November. More or less, the differences between the test box and the one that will arrive in stores a little later will have been anecdotal.
What to expect?
On the first Apple silicon Mac mini, the processor was not an M1 but an A12Z Bionic chip like that of the iPad. This, probably in order not to reveal too much information on the technical sheet of the future racing beast. But with the Vision Pro, it's different: there is no “transition” here to keep confidential, and we already know the motherboards that will run the device. It is an M2, like that of the 13-inch MacBook Pro currently available in stores, and aR1. The latter, however, is still unpublished, so its fate for the developer kit remains questionable.
Moreover, visionOSwill obviously be in beta, like Big Sur on the Mac mini in its time. Some of the native platforms to expect include Freeform, Notes, Apple Music and Apple TV, to name a few.
You will have to pay
Note also that if the Apple silicon Mac mini was indeed available in preview for developers, the kit then cost 500 dollars. Against around 800 (+60%) for the public version.
The Vision Pro, for its part, will be billed at 3,499 euros when it is sold in the Apple Store at the beginning of 2024 (United States). Based on the same figures, we can therefore estimate that the headset developer kit could be worth in the2 180 dollars.
