Apple Watch: fall detection helps an 87-year-old woman

Apple Watch Series 4 brings several new features to protect users' lives, one of them is fall detection. It was precisely this one that came to the aid of an 87-year-old American woman, the victim of a car accident.

As a reminder, the Apple Watch Series 4 is capable of detecting when the user falls suddenly. If a sudden fall onto a solid surface is detected, Apple Watch issues a fall alert and gives it the option to contact emergency services and loved ones.

If after a fall, the user does not move for 1 minute, the emergency call is made automatically. A message is also sent to the emergency contacts (those on the medical form).

Dotty White, an 87-year-old American woman, equipped with an Apple Watch Series 4, was the victim of a road accident when another car hit her. After the accident, she was unable to reach her phone in the back seat.

But his Apple Watch interpreted the accident as a fall, and automatically contacted the emergency services, at the same time the watch sent a message to his children with the location of the accident.

Her son and daughter immediately went there to inquire about their mother's state of health. In the end, Dotty White escaped with a few broken ribs and a big scare.

She appreciates having an Apple Watch even more now because she knows her watch can potentially help her. At the same time, it reassures children to know that their mother is equipped with such a device.

As a reminder, Apple has chosen to only activate fall detection for those who are over 65 years old. In practice, by default this is therefore deactivated unless you have indicated your age on the Apple Watch or in the Health app, and you are aged 65 or over. We show youin this tutorial, how to activate it whatever your age.
