A cheaper plastic Apple Watch SE 3 in preparation

Despite the announcement of the iPhone 16 and the Apple Watch Series 10, the keynote on September 9 left a taste of unfinished business for part of the Apple community. The absence of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the SE 3 has something to do with it. Despite this even longer wait than expected, fans of the Apple brand's products on a small budget should quickly find a smile again.A plastic and therefore less expensive version of the Apple Watch SE 3 is reportedly in preparation.

A plastic version of the Apple Watch SE 3 in development

In his September 15 newsletter published by Bloomberg, Mark Gurman, Apple news specialist, states that anew Apple Watch SE with a plastic shell is under development.He already mentioned this possibility last August. The objective would be twofold for the American manufacturer: using this material would allow it to both lower the price of the connected watch, but also to make it more suitable for children. As a reminder, the second generation Apple Watch SE released in 2022 cost€299 at launch. We can therefore imagine that the price of the SE 3 will be a few dozen euros lower.

Mark Gurman thinks that this colored plastic SE could be a good alternative to smartphones, banned in certain school districts in the United States (as well as in French middle schools since the start of the September 2024 school year). The journalist indicates that Apple's manufacturing teams metcost and quality problems in developing this plastic version,but everything should be fine now that the transition from steel to titanium on the Ultra 2 and Series 10 is complete.

The Apple Watch SE 3 should even shipa brand new processor to increase its performance compared to the previous model.Obviously, Apple's connected watch is not expected to show up anytime soon. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the Apple Watch SE 3 and Ultra 3 will be released in 2025.
