Apple Watch Series 1: the bad news that users fear

Apple has just added the Apple Watch Series 1 to the list of products “vintage“, that is to say which are not exactly obsolete but for which support has stopped completely. Understand that the Apple company's customer service should no longer be able to help you, in the event of a problem with this model, precisely. But of course, some resellers could continue to offer repairs and spare parts if necessary. The price, however, may be too expensive to be worth it, especially compared to a more recent and new Apple Watch model – or a refurbished one.

The Apple Watch Series 1 is, moreover, not the only one to no longer be entitled to as much attention from Cupertino. Indeed, this is also the case for the very first model of the famous connected watch, released in 2015. No numbering took place then, as when the original iPhone was released in 2007.

The new Apple Watches play the game of modernity

Compared to old models, the new versions of the Apple Watch are, moreover, clearly better than those which preceded them. And for good reason: now, the brightness reaches up to no less than three thousand nits with an Apple Watch Ultra 2. A range far superior to the basic models, the price of which is currently set at 449 euros fora Series 9.

The Apple Watch Series 9 is powered by an in-house chip, but the manufacturer does not specify the amount of RAM under the hood. On the other hand, the list of sensors is, for its part, well known. It includes a blood oximeter, a heart rate sensor or an altimeter.Always on. Alonethe first generation Apple Watch Ultraand second generation are however equipped with a depth gauge, ideal for scuba diving.

Series 1: a relic of modern times

With its brightness of only 450 nits, the Apple Watch Series 1 is no longer really up to date and will not react as well as a Series 8 or a Series 9 in direct sunlight. In addition, the operating system can only be updated up to version 6.2.8 – which is particularly dated. However, an old edition of the platform in question potentially exposes itself to more risks of hacking – even if security improvements are available for several more months before the end of the deployment of major versions.
