Best of: 5 discreet new features from WWDC to remember

  • New features from WWDC have been more or less overlooked
  • Among these, we can notably cite the case of the arrival ofSharePlaysur CarPlay
  • A new shortcut for finding your Apple Watch arrives as a bonus in theControl center

That's it. After more than a week of discoveries for developers, WWDC is finally over. But if during the event we were mainly able to discover new products like the 15-inch MacBook Air or the Vision Pro, other notable changes can also be found on the software side.

And for good reason: during the conference, Apple also announced iOS 17, macOS Sonoma, iPadOS 17 and watchOS 10. So many major updates which will be available in final version this fall, and which you can also test in beta from NOW. And as a taster, we now offer you some rather discreet new features seen in recent days at Apple on these platforms: here we go.

1 – Make life easier for your Uber driver

To start,SharePlayarrives on CarPlay. Directly from its screen, the dashboard operating system will allow the driver to accept title reading requests sent by passengers. So, there is no need to ask your driver to manually activate Bluetooth or search for a track, which will also guarantee you more safety because the driver will be less distracted.

Take advantage ofSharePlayon CarPlay will not request an Apple Music subscription from all participants, but only from the vehicle owner. When a share is started, the name and profile photo of the person who started it will be displayed on the on-board screen.

2 – A larger Mac is not necessarily more durable

Now let's talk about the new MacBook Air with M2 chip, also revealed this Monday. Here, contrary to general expectations with this type of format, the move to a larger 15-inch panel is not synonymous with better autonomy. Indeed, Apple announces that the laptop will last up tosix o'clockin a row, which is as much as its 13.6-inch cousin.

For comparison, the 16-inch MacBook Pro lasts up to twenty-two hours, compared to four months for the 14-inch MacBook Pro announced at the end of 2022. It's difficult to understand Cupertino's positioning here, but we can bet that the performance of the chip optimized with those of macOS Sonoma will make the difference in the long term.

3 – Siri has changed

With this, note that, regardless of the device used and including on the Vision Pro, users will no longer have to pronounce “Dis, Siri” to call out to Apple’s eponymous voice assistant. It will therefore suffice to say “Siri“, and that’s it.

Despite everything, likenotepreviously, this could potentially trigger more false positives. This is why Apple has provided a solution allowing you to return to the original slogan, if necessary.

4 – Ping my Watch

The Worldwide Developer Conference was also an opportunity to discover watchOS 10 and itsnoveltiesfor cyclists. But Apple's connected watches also have a new advantage, to be discovered this time in theControl centerof the iPhone. It is thus possible to add a new icon, which simply needs to be touched once to ring the wearable remotely in the event of loss. Practical.

5 – The Vision Pro will be better attached

Finally, let's also mention the case of the Vision Pro, a new mixed reality headset which will be released next year for $3,499 in the United States. Its design, during its presentation, was particularly questioned by the presence of a unique headband, to be tightened horizontally around the skull in order to hold the device in position. But official images revealed by the manufacturer have shown that it will be possible to invest in asecond headband, this time installed above the head, to ensure better comfort in movement and to prevent the device from falling downwards under the effect of gravity.

You can see this additional accessory below. The price remains unknown, but the product will probably not be included in the box.
