- Apple makes developer betas accessible to everyone, for free
- Simply create a developer account to access it.
- Despite everything, the operation is strongly discouraged except in exceptional circumstances.
The betas of iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma are now available for free to users who have created a free developer account, forcompatible devices. Until now, you had to pay no less than 99 dollars per year (around 93 euros) to benefit from it. But Apple has quietly changed the rules for accounts dedicated to app creators. So everyone can already install the beta, including the general public, provided they have registered.
It is from the Settings app that the betas appear (on iOS), as always. These can be downloaded immediately, and this is not the only advantage of an Apple developer account without a subscription. Indeed, it is also possible with this profile to access Apple's forums for publishers and beta updates of the Xcode software.
Apple has officially made the developer betas available for free.

Don't install them now
However, we strongly advise against installing the macOS Sonoma and iOS 17 beta updates right now – except in a dedicated testing environment. Indeed, many bugs may remain.
We ourselves have already installed iOS 17 on our iPhone, but the model in question is reserved for testing and separate from the one we use for daily communication. This is an essential security measure not only for stability, but also for security reasons because advanced versions potentially open the door to the most well-equipped hackers.
Public beta coming soon
Apple explained, during theWWDC, that the public beta would arrive in July 2023. This should not change.
The final version, for its part, should arrive in the fall if Cupertino keeps its commitments.
