Good news, repairing your MacBook Pro will cost less

Apple is not known as the easiest brand to repair its products. Whether on the iPhone or the Mac, independent organizations like the famous iFixit experts have often criticized them for this lack of repairability. But in recent years, things have been changing on the Cupertino side.

Driven by an eco-responsible soul (and increasingly restrictive legal obligations) Apple makes it easier to repair these devices, but the latter is always very expensive, which does not make things obvious. In order to reduce this price barrier, Apple has just circulated a memo to its in-store teams.

The idea is not to reduce the cost of repairs as a whole, but focuses on a very specific point. Apple indeed suggests in this memo to change the speakers of a MacBook Pro individually. Until now, computers that suffered from a defect in one of these parts had the entire upper chassis replaced.

This came at a cost to the company, which would charge for the repair accordingly. By replacing defective speakers independently, Apple reduces the cost of repair, both for its own account and that of the customer. It is not yet clear how much cheaper the repair will be with this new method.

For the moment, all the information we have on this subject are the conclusions of an internal memo discovered by Macrumors and no official announcement has been made from Apple to confirm or deny this new repair method.

Today, the Apple site still states that a speaker repair for a latest generation MacBook Pro costs €259.
