Repair bonus: the State extends it to smartphone screens

Did you know that the State can help you repair your electronic devices, including your iPhone, and this since December 15, 2022? This device, which is called«Repair Bonus», was initiated as part of the anti-waste law for a circular economy (AGEC).

The objective of the operation is to avoid waste by increasing the durability of broken electronic devices. To do this, the State supportsup to 60% of the total repair price, i.e. assistance includedbetween 10 and 45 euros. This aid has so far only concerned repairs which made the devices non-functional, but this should change from the start of next year.

For whom and for what?

In order to benefit from this bonus, there are a few conditions. First of all, it is necessary that the product you wish to repair was purchased in France and that it belongs to you. In addition, it must be one of the products supported by approved repairers.

Additionally, the device covers a wide range of devices, from coffee makers to tablets to laptops. Smartphones are also affected by this device. Small clarification however,Products still under warranty are not eligible for the bonus.

Concerning smartphones,Not all types of repairs are supported. For example, the repair that is most often carried out on smartphones in the world is undoubtedly the repair of the broken screen, but the bonus unfortunately does not cover it. However, this should soon change.

What's new in 2024?

Currently, by going to the site dedicated to the repair bonus, it is indicated that certain repairs are not taken into account: “Please note, certain repairs are not eligible for the Repair Bonus. This concerns, for example, repairs of non-functional damage (e.g.: cracked rear panel), resulting from misuse (e.g.: screen broken by an external impact, oxidation linked to high exposure to humidity )”.

However, the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion in France recently declared that the system would beextended to January 1, 2024. It will in fact be possible from this date to be able to receive help from the State in therepairing your broken smartphone screen.
