Byte, the resurrection of Vine, is already at the top of downloads on the App Store

Since hislaunch Friday, the successor to Vine has positioned itself directly opposite ByteDance and its famous TikTok application. From the very first hours, it placed itself at the top of downloads on the App Store in the USA. Today, it retains its first place.

In addition to the United States, Byte is also the number one free app for iOS in Canada and ranks in the top 10 in Australia, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom. Regarding the Play Store, Byte is sixth among free apps in the United States. Dom Hofmann, co-founder of Vine, has decided to relaunch with Byte. After selling Vine to Twitter in 2012, its first app was not as successful as expected. With Byte, Dom Hofmann intends to strike hard from the start.

In any case, as ambitious as the Byte project is, this application is not close to dethroning the Chinese giant TikTok. Indeed, since its launch in 2016, the Chinese application has been downloaded more than 1.27 billion times worldwide. TikTok claims 800 million monthly active users. All these figures are constantly changing, so Byte will have to work hard to catch up with its competitor.
