How the Apple Watch focused on health (and will continue to do so)

During an interview given toThe Independent, Apple's Jeff Williams, Sumbul Desai and Kevin Lynch, executives working for the Apple brand, spoke about the Apple Watch. As noted during the interview, the connected watch has become significantly more health-oriented in recent years. However, this was probably not planned.

The Apple Watch shouldn't focus so much on health

Indeed, Jeff Williams indicates on this subject that the company had not planned to develop a “major health initiative", but that its expansion in the field had been "very organic».

Apple's COO adds: "Most people think we had this major health initiative, well, we had some notions at the beginning, but no idea what it was going to be. And honestly, it's a situation where we started to pull at the threads and the more we pulled, the more we realized that there was a huge opportunity for us to influence people with the information that is on their wrist».

There is no doubt that this refers to the ECG functionality unveiled during the presentation of the Apple Watch Series 4 last year. The medical device actually makes it possible to perform an electrocardiogram in 30 seconds and detect certain cardiac disorders. The system continues to prove itself, so much so that testimonies quite regularly mention the case of users who did not believe in the system, but to whom doctors confirmed a disorder.

Jeff Williams explains about health-related features: “The first letter we received about saving someone's life with the heart rate monitor, we were surprised, because anyone can go to the clock and get their heart rate. But then,we started to receive more and moreand we realized that we had a huge opportunity and perhaps even an obligation to do more».

For Apple employees, the health options present in the Apple Watch are just the beginning and the Apple brand plans to do more. In this sense, the firm will continue to focus on the development of such functionalities.
