After being temporarily blocked in the United States,TikTokhas just obtained a respite of several months thanks to an executive order signed by Donald Trump. At the same time, its rivals Meta and Bluesky are increasing their initiatives.
Meta releases a TikTok rival tool
On the side of Mark Zuckerberg's firm, it was a surprise announcement made this weekend with the upcoming launch of a new application called Edits. This is a video editing service that is reminiscent of CapCut, the one offered by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.
On Threads, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri revealed more. It thus indicates that this tool is“aimed at all of you who are passionate about creating videos on your phone”. The manager adds:“A lot is happening right now, but whatever happens, it’s our job to provide the best tools possible to creators”.
This service is currently available for pre-order on the App Store and it will be launched in the Apple ecosystem starting in February.
Bluesky in ambush
Almost at the same time,Bluesky announcedthis Sunday that it was going to launch a feed for vertical videos in its application. The latter is located in the Explore tab of the service. We can therefore scroll and watch short videos endlessly as we could on TikTok and Instagram.
At the same time, developers took advantage of the decentralized aspect of the AT protocol (on which the social network is located) to offer clones of the Chinese social network: Tik.Blue, Skylight.Social and Bluescreen.Blue. For now, these services are still struggling and are only in the early stages of development, but they could soon overshadow other platforms.
