The videoconferencing application Zoom has been the subject of numerous criticisms in recent weeks in terms of security and protection of private data. However, it is a very practical solution for video calling friends and family during this period of confinement. In particular, it has an option allowing you todeactivate the magnification of the faces of the speaker speaking.
Such an option is currently unavailable in FaceTime, the similar service offered by Apple, for users of… Apple products only.
Because, even if the magnification of the face of the participant intervening in the conversation can be practical in the context of a professional videoconference, between friends, when everyone tries to speak at the same time, this function quickly tends to create visual discomfort .
Apple understood this well and introduced in iOS 13.5 (still in beta at the time of publication of this article) a new option in the FaceTime settings, calledAutomatic Prominencein English. This option, when deactivated, stops any zooming effect on the faces of people speaking.

Note that even with this option disabled, it is still possible to display certain zoomed faces. For this it is enoughdouble-tap on one of the faces of people participating in the conversation.
This is an expected new feature in the FaceTime app, available in iOS 13.5 which we hopeavailable very quickly in a general public version.
