iPhone 13: is it more or less expensive than the iPhone 12 when it was released?

Last night, Apple broadcast its back-to-school keynote. During the latter, the Californian firm presented new iPhone 13, a new Apple Watch Series 7, but also a new iPad and a new iPad mini. Don't missour full summaryof the conference to find out everything about the announcements made by Tim Cook and his collaborators.

Regarding the new iPhone 13 range, the changes are rather minor, both in terms of design and technical characteristics. Is this lack of revolution reflected in the prices of the latter compared to the previous generation of iPhone? This is the subject of this article and a comparison of the prices on the release date of the iPhone 12 with those of the new iPhone 13.

iPhone 12 mini vs iPhone 13 mini

The iPhone 13 mini, like the iPhone 13, no longer offers 64 GB storage. The 128 and 256 GB options are still present, now with a 512 GB option. Here is the price difference depending on the storage capacity between iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini:

  • 64 Go :unavailable for the iPhone 13 mini, €809 for the iPhone 12 mini
  • 128 Go :€809 for the iPhone 13 mini, €929 for the iPhone 12 mini
  • 256 Go :€929 for the iPhone 13 mini, €979 for the iPhone 12 mini
  • 512 Go :€1,159 for the iPhone 13 mini, unavailable for the iPhone 12 mini

At 128 GB, the iPhone 13 mini is cheaper than the iPhone 12 mini. Basically, you get 128 GB this year for the price of last year's 64 GB. Same for the 256 GB, you benefit from 256 GB with the iPhone 13 mini at the price of the 128 GB of the iPhone 12 mini. On the other hand, to go to 512 GB, the bill is steep: +230 €, unheard of at Apple…

  • 64 Go :unavailable for the iPhone 13, €909 for the iPhone 12
  • 128 Go :€909 for the iPhone 13, €959 for the iPhone 12
  • 256 Go :€1,029 for the iPhone 13, €1,079 for the iPhone 12
  • 512 Go :€1,259 for the iPhone 13, unavailable for the iPhone 12

For the iPhone 13 compared to the iPhone 12, same observation as for the iPhone 12 mini. This year you benefit from a model at the same price as last year's model, but with twice as many GB of storage. On the other hand, +230€ to go from 256 GB to 512 GB there too. It stings!

iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro

For the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, the base capacity remains 128 GB, as was the case for the 12 and 12 Pro Max. Additional storage capacity appears: 1 TB.

  • 128 Go :€1,159 for the iPhone 13 Pro, €1,159 for the iPhone 12 Pro
  • 256 Go :€1,279 for the iPhone 13 Pro, €1,279 for the iPhone 12 Pro
  • 512 Go :€1,509 for the iPhone 13 Pro, €1,509 for the iPhone 12 Pro
  • 1 To :€1,739 for the iPhone 13 Pro, unavailable for the iPhone 12 Pro
  • Count €100 more for the Pro Max versions

Unlike the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, the iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max do not benefit from double the storage capacity for the same price. On the other hand, it is always good to note that for equal storage capacity, 128, 256 and 512 GB, the prices have not changed one iota from one generation to the next.

Unfortunately, here too, count on +230 € to go from an iPhone 13 Pro 512 GB to an iPhone 13 Pro 1 TB.

Finally, you will have quickly noticed, the iPhone 13 Pro Max with 1 TB reaches €1,839. This is the most expensive iPhone ever sold by Apple.

What to conclude?

In the end, we can see that Applehas not increased the prices of its iPhones this year compared to last year. Even better, with the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, the storage is twice as large without increasing the price. On the other hand, if the 512 GB capacities for the iPhone 13/13 mini and 1 TB for the iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max interest you, you must be mentally prepared to spend more than €1700-1800, with a voucher of €230 compared to the lower capacity.
