In iOS 18, this feature is no longer reserved for HomeKit devices

While iOS 18 was presented on June 10, we continue to learn a little more about it every day. Indeed, during its presentation which took place during WWDC 2024, Apple did not say everything, far from it.

Since the June event, the Apple firm has already deployed 5 betas of iOS 18 in total. This allows him to refine the details, in order to keep only the best. For example, Apple had announced a big overhaul of the iPhone's Photo Library in iOS 18, but it appears that part of that overhaul was rolled back, perhaps due to dissatisfaction among beta testers.

Other iOS 18 features not announced by Apple at WWDC 2024 includeAdaptive lighting from Matter lights in the Home app.

Adaptive lightingexists since iOS 14,but she was until nowreserved for HomeKit devices, Apple's home automation technology. The latest beta of iOS 18, however, shows that lights that respect the Matter standard will be able to support it this fall. As a reminder, iOS Adaptive Lighting automatically adjusts the color temperature of the bulbs throughout the day based on the time of natural light.

Matter is a connectivity standard for home automation devices. It is jointly developed by a consortium of companies, including Apple, Google, and Amazon. This allows different connected home devices to work together, regardless of the brand or ecosystem they belong to.

Nanoleaf is already testing the functionality

The Verge reports on this:

Gimmy Chu, CEO of Nanoleaf, confirmed to The Verge that his company is currently testing this feature on its Essentials Matter line of lamps. “We are one of the partners helping to launch adaptive lighting on Matter products,” he said in an interview. “Over the past few months, we have conducted extensive testing to ensure customers will have an exceptional experience. »

These tests led to the appearance of adaptive lighting for Nanoleaf's Matter products in beta versions of iOS 18, as The Verge first saw.
