In his latest weekly newsletter, the journalist fromBloomberg Mark Gurmanexplains that a new button called Capture will appear on the iPhone 16. It is assumed that the iPhone 16 Plus will also be equipped with it, just like the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. You guessed it: as the name suggests, this new shortcut should trigger the camera. But not just any old way, since here it will be a question of launching the filming of a video. This, even though 360 degree contentjust starting to make headlineson Apple mobiles, for the Vision Pro mixed reality headset which is arriving next year…
To go further, our source of the day explains that the button in question would be capacitive. In other words: it probably won't be a physical push button. Instead, the manufacturer would have in mind a simplehaptic feedback(vibrations), to confirm to the user that the press has indeed been recorded by the system. A solution which has already been mentioned in the past, because it could have appeared on the iPhone 15. For the moment, among the mobiles equipped in stores, onlythe third generation iPhone SEentitled to this advantage with its Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
A second button on the way
These rumors are of course not without echoing other information, according to which thebouton ActioniPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would also land on the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus. Of course, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max would continue to be eligible as well.
Thebouton Actionis, for its part, a real physical button. You can use it to trigger the shortcut of your choice, thanks to the customization offered by iOS. Moreover, among the apps that this interface can launch, we find Camera. Others will prefer to switch to silent mode, turn on the flash to act as a flashlight or even execute a shortcut. It’s a shame that an emergency mode cannot be launched in this way, in particular to combat harassment, such as the value proposition of certain dedicated connected watches.
In nine months
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro should be released inSeptember 2024, if Apple does not deviate from its calendar habits.
These models should not yet be entitled to a proprietary Wi-Fi modem, unlikesome of their successors, but an in-house processor will certainly be there.
- iPhone 16s could have a new “Capture” button
- This button would trigger the opening of the Camera app, to shoot videos
- All four iPhone 16 models should be equipped with it, the same for thebouton Actionalready present on the iPhone 15 Pro
