A second Apple Store unionizes without excesses

It isBloombergwho heard the news first: the Apple Store in Penn Square (Oklahoma) has just voted in favor of a union bringing together employees who want it. This is the second store to act in this way, afteranother address located in Maryland. This time, the vote was a little closer:32 votes against, 56 votes for.

The employees concerned will join theCommunications Workers of America, one of the largest unions in the United States. This brings together a good number of media workers who aim to defend their rights when necessary. As is often the case in this type of case, the authorities must still validate the membership but this is only a simple formality.

Apple reacts

For its part, Apple asserted its right of reply by writing to Mark Gurman, an expert journalist for the Apple firm:

The press release specifies that Cupertino claims to haveincreased salaries by 45%since 2018 with Uncle Sam, while providing benefits “exceptional” to his teams. Among these, the group mentions the case of educational and support modules for families.

What are the demands?

For new union members, this victory is the sign of abetter social protectionin the future. The objective is clear: to guarantee a working environment “fair” to employees with “justice” et “respect” to the key. Which is of course reminiscent of the recent scandals linked to internal human resources policy at Apple,sometimes synonymous with highly criticized salary disparities.

Thanks to the support of the Communications Workers of America, Penn Square employees will be able to benefit fromgreater meansto make themselves heard in the event of disagreement with their management. The organization has already defended technicians from other companies such as the American operator AT&T or its competitor Verizon.

Some prerequisites

Good to know for those interested: becoming a member of the union also requires a smallinvestment, often equal to a few dozen dollars across the Atlantic. A membership form will soon be presented to the Penn Square Apple Store team to take the temperature. Until then, the store remains open as planned.
