The holiday season was a sign of great calm for Apple software. iOS 15.3 dates back to December 21 in public beta, while the last version of macOS dates back almost a month. Dedicated only to developers, one would have thought that it would also be offered to other users since then, but no.
Instead, Apple has just discreetly deployed a second advanced edition of macOS 12.2 for publishers, which therefore directly follows that of late 2021.No changeHowever, major players do not seem to be involved.
How to install a developer beta on your Mac?
To test macOS 12.2 beta 2, you must be registeredto the dedicated programthat Apple has implemented. Note that to join, you have to pay around 87 euros per year.To find out more, the procedure is described right here. In addition, the procedure is a little different from usual the first time, since you will need to download a “profile” to your computer in order to benefit from future updates.
What's changing with Monterey
If macOS Monterey 12.2 apparently does not offer any new functionality (which will be verified in a few days with the first tests), others have however landed on computers running withthe previous variation.
Among them, we include improved Safari scrolling for MacBook Pros equipped with a ProMotion panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate or even the abandonment of the webapp for Apple Music, in favor of AppKit. Same thing for Apple TV and its streaming catalog.
