In a week to the day, theDMA (Digital Market Act),which is the law on digital markets, definitively comes into force. As a reminder, the companies affected by these laws are those with at least 45 million users in the EU. The European Commission calls themGatekeeper.
While the fateful date is fast approaching and all that remains isa few days for Apple to comply, the Apple firm has just communicated publicly regarding an interesting fact.
Government agencies worried
In a guidance document shared atReuters, Apple states:
An EU government agency informed us that it does not have the funding or staff to review and approve apps for its devices and therefore plans to continue to rely on Apple and the App Store , because they trust us to comprehensively control applications.
It would also not be the only government agency that fears these measures. In its document, Apple also talks about agencies providing essential functions such as defense, banking and emergency services.
A question of security?
The government agencies that contacted Cupertino would have done so in order to obtain guarantees. They wishensure government iPhones continue to use only the Apple ecosystem.Their fear is in particular that officials will download risky content outside of the App Store, which could infect phones. As noted above, some are not able to provide additional security checks to prevent this.
Reutersalso reports that two EU countries fear the DMA, but it is not clear which ones they are. Nor were any details provided regarding the number of agencies and where they operate. For the moment, few structures seem to be satisfied with the situation created by the new laws on digital markets.
Spotify,Mozillaor evenEpic Games, who impatiently awaited the announcement of Apple's new measures, did not fail to express their dissatisfaction with them. To learn more on the subject, see:
