According to the South Korean specialist newspaperThe Elec, the two giants of the country LG and Samsung have just started production of the OLED panels which will equip the iPhone 13. A name which of course remains subject to modification, given that it has not been confirmed by the manufacturer. Some also believe that the mobiles in question could in fact be called iPhone 12s. Four models would be in the pipeline:a mini version, the classic edition, the Pro and the Pro Max.
The delivery schedule here would arrive almost a month earlier compared to that of the previous year, which was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was first of all Samsung that launched the ship, around the middle of May, while its major competitor LG has just started. In terms of numbers, the two brands would be responsible for eighty and thirty million units respectively, confirmingthe estimates of several analysts published so far.
120 Hz is coming
Samsung is also the only supplier of LTPO screens, which promise to be a major advantage compared to the iPhone 12 already on the market. Indeed, this technology is capable of supporting several refresh rates, especially unlocking the 120 Hz frame rate expected by many gamers (although it is not visible to the naked eye). A real marketing argument, which could overshadow the big names in the sector such as the Asus ROG Phone.
This would also be an advantage for the autonomy of the iPhone 13, since lower frequencies can thus be selected outside hours of intensive use. The Apple Watch Series 6 and its panelalways-onalready offer this solution, which has largely borne fruit.
BOE in ambush
The Omnia firm, for its part, judges Samsung capable of supplying one hundred million OLED screens for iPhones this year, compared to fifty for LG and nine for BOE Technology. A subcontractor whose stock price is growing on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. In 2019, the company would have even become the leading flat screen manufacturer in the world ahead of Samsung and LG for 21% market share (figuresIHS Markit).
