An emulator soon to be banned from the App Store (again)

If there is one criticism that can be made of iOS devices, it probably lies in their inability to run anything other than applications from the App Store. Some rather gifted publishers therefore found the solution several years ago, which consists of marketing emulators that everyone can then use as they wish. iDOS 2 is one of them.

Second version of software launched in 2010, the program is a carbon copy of DOS. An operating system well known from previous generations, since it is the ancestor of our good old Microsoft Windows. With this solution, it is easy to play games that are not compatible with Macs or to install old programs suffering from the same problem. Especially since iDOS 2 also exists for macOS and iPadOS.

Apple says no

However, if you wishiDOS 2 tester, then you will have to hurry: the app may no longer be available by next month. Indeed, Apple warned its developer Chaoji Li when he attempted to submit a revised version of its platform to the App Store verification process. However, we know that this is particularly restrictive, particularly towards the smallest studios.

What is criticized here by Cupertino is the ability of iDOS 2 to “install or run executable code” but also to “import games“. According to Tim Cook's teams, this is in reality dangerous behavior because it is capable of “to add or change […] features of the app” while “allowing downloading of content without a license“.

One more argument for legislators

Although this opinion based on the guarantee of security promised to its users is correct, Apple is once again embarking on a path that could cost it dearly. Indeed, such a positioning risks seriously causing contact duringquestions asked by the CNIL to which the firm must respond.

The French organization is not the only one to ask this question: the United States, the European Commissionor even Germany have already been able to express their concerns relating to this alleged anti-competitiveness in the past.
