In 2021, an iPhone without a Lightning port and an iPhone SE 2 Plus

With the iPad Pro 2018, Apple began abandoning the Lightning port in favor of the USB-C port, which has several advantages and has become the standard connection on many tech devices. We expect it to arrive on the iPhone one day, but Apple could have another idea in mind.

Indeed, according to a new report from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who very often guesses right, Apple plans to launch a high-end model in the second half of 2021, which offers a “completely wireless experience“.

Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple would abandon the Lightning port on the iPhone, not to switch to a USB-C port, but rather to offer a model that would bewithout port. With recharging which we guess will be done wirelessly only.

To offer such a model, Apple would need to integrate a fast wireless charging solution, because for the moment wired charging is much faster than wireless charging.

In the first quarter of 2021, the analyst expects Apple to unveil a “iPhone SE 2 Plus” with a screen that covers the entire front, but without Face ID, therefore with a much smaller notch.

Instead of Face ID, there would be a fingerprint sensor orTouch ID integrated into the Power buttonof this iPhone SE 2 Plus.

We recently learned via a report from JPMorgan that Apple plans to release five iPhones (including the iPhone SE 2) per year from 2020, with two iPhone launches per year from 2021.

Apple could therefore have a launch in the spring with entry and mid-range models, and in September two high-end or Pro models.
