iBoot leak: a portion of the iOS 9 code used to initialize the iPhone downloaded from the Internet

The
source code of an operating system is normally a closely guarded secret
kept, because the study of it allows us to understand exactly how it
works, but also, and above all, to find security vulnerabilities in
exploit.

Well, the Motherboard website reports that thecode source you
bootloader d’iOS 9
or iBoot used to initialize the iPhone and
the iPad was shared by a Github user and is available in
download from different places on the web.

The source code in question concerns a version of iOS 9.3.x and it is
impossible to compile because several files are missing. However, according to the
IT security experts this poses a risk.

It is indeed possible to analyze this source code to findof the
security vulnerabilities that may still be present
in iOS 11 and
could be exploited for nefarious purposes.

For computer geeks, iOS iBoot is comparable to Bios
of the motherboard on computer, it is a critical element and Apple
awards $200,000 for flaws unearthed by experts in
security through its bug bounty or “bug hunting” program.

For now, there are several things to keep in mind regarding this
iBoot leak. On the one hand, the legitimacy of the source code has not been confirmed.
In addition, it concerns iOS 9.3.x, an old version of the system, little or no
not usable today, knowing that Apple has carried out numerous
changes since then, going through iOS 10, then 11.

Apple has not commented on this leak and if it turns out to be legitimate, the
Cupertino company must probably already put measures in place to
limit its impact. We will keep you informed.
