Google still challenges Apple on a very sensitive subject

In theory,Googledidn't really have time to waste this Wednesday during its big annual I/O conference. The Tech giant was indeed due to present its new devices and address its future AI projects. The Mountain View firm, however, took a moment to bring out an old sea serpent: the absence of RCS messaging support on iPhone.

Remember that RCS is the new protocol used by the technology company on Android which replaces SMS. Apple has always refused to adopt this new format, and the Cupertino company prefers to stick to iMessage.

During the conference, Google began by recalling that 800 million people use RCS worldwide, before specifying that this total could be much higher if all OS“received and adopted RCS”. On stage, Sameer Samat, vice-president of Android, was even more specific, saying he hoped everyone could“find yourself in the group chat, whatever device you use”.

As we will have understood, Google clearly has no intention of letting go of Apple on this subject, and it is not missing any opportunity to increase the pressure. For its part, the apple brand is also holding fast to its position.

Last year, Tim Cook notablyexplain:“I don't see our users asking us to put a lot of energy into this at this point. I would love to convert you to an iPhone ». Then, when his interlocutor insisted that his mother on Android could not receive certain videos because of the SMS format, he responded scathingly:“Buy your mother an iPhone!” »
