The government chooses to block the production of iPhones

iPhone 13s are now produced in India. Among the assemblers who have relocated locally, we can notably cite Wistronwhose activities have recently experienced some setbacksbut alsoFoxconn, one of the leaders among Apple's subcontractors alongside Samsung and TSMC. However, a recent incident simply put a stop to one of the factories belonging to Hon Hai.

Indeed, local authorities are carrying out investigations following slowdowns also caused by employees protesting against theirworking conditions. Worse ; food poisoning would also have raised questions from officials. After a quick analysis of the situation, they then confirmed that the framework proposed to employees on a daily basis was not in order before ordering an upgrade without which the circuits could not restart.

Several thousand workers on the sidelines

Among the seventeen thousand contract workers at the complex, only less than 6% will restart the production line next Thursday. The investigation ofIndian governmentshowed in particular that there were certain health risks linked to water and food in employees' living spaces. But that's not all, since the absence of electrical current would also pose a problem.

This is absolutely not the first time that accusations of this type have hit Foxconn. Among the worst, we can also cite thesuicidesof many of its employees attributed to the pressure experienced in the office. A situation which also concerns Apple directly, sincean Apple Store salesman found himself under fire from his manager before ending his life.

Late for the New Year?

According to the sources we were able to consult, the Foxconn factory which stopped its deliveries primarily manufacturesiPhone 12and iPhone 11. These models are certainly still available in stores, but they are not among the most popular. However, we do not know whether the iPhone 13s are also affected, nor whether a stock shortage is therefore expected in France.

No calls for a boycott appear to have been made by prominent internet users at this time. However, a strike movement having broken out at Apple recently, the idea could also germinate among its service providers.
