WithiOS 16.2 update, expected later this week, Apple will allow its users to test new features. In addition to the FreeForm application which should be the big new feature of this update, other options will be coming to iPhone and iPad.
This is particularly the case with “data encryption” on iCloud. This measure was announced a few days ago by Apple. Apple originally wanted to implement a completely different functionality, called CSAM, but faced with reactions from the general public, the Cupertino company changed its mind.
This end-to-end encryption will make iCloud impregnable. But Apple is not going to allow just anyone to block data like this. Once encryption is done, there is no going back. The Apple brand has therefore decided to prevent the encryption of data from a new device.
Apple adds more security
During the first months of this functionality, it will not be possible to connect to a new iCloud account and encrypt its contents. Security put in place by Apple to prevent a malicious actor from encrypting data in a hacked iCloud account.
Once the data is blocked, he could blackmail the owner of the data to return it to him. This practice is unfortunately quite common, and Apple knows it all too well. The apple brand therefore wanted to protect its back and does not allowencrypt datafrom any device.
Apple's data protection system is currently only available in the United States. In France we should have the right to such a functionality at the beginning of next year. This should give Apple time to correct certain problems and other bugs already noticed by users.
