L’IDC (Internation Data
Corporation) has released a new report detailingsales of
connected bracelets in the third quarter of 2016, with a view
overall over the year, which makes it possible to compare the evolution of shares of
market and sales made by the various manufacturers since 2015.
In this context, the Apple Watchdon't show yourself at your best
jour, with a greatly reduced market share compared to
competitors making good progress:
Overall, the entire connected accessories market is growing on
this quarter compared to last year, witha
growth of 3.1%and a total of 23 million products sold on
the quarter.
But over the same period,Apple loses 71% share of
walk, with an estimated 1.1 million Apple Watches sold on
the quarter. On the podium, we find Fitbit with 23% market share,
followed by Xiaomi (16.5%) and Garmin (5.7%). Samsung, Garmin and Fitbit sign
moreover the 3 best progressions since 2015.
According to the IDC, these poor results for the Apple Watch are justified by
several points. The first is the fact that the Apple Watch 2 arrived at the
end of the quarter taken into account here and therefore that the sales of the new
versioncould not impact these results.
The second point is the questioning of aApple Watch 1
aging, with an OS that is not very optimized for this reason, since it is there
still talking about watchOS 2, watchOS 3 having only been released in September
also.
Tim Cook also felt obliged to react to all these figures, via a
email sent to the Reuters newspaper, certainly to reassure a good number of
people interested in Apple's results. It is clear that the Apple
Watch aset new sales recordsduring the
week following Black Friday (considered the first week of
Christmas shopping in the United States), and that the last quarter of 2016
should bethe best quarter in terms of saleswhat
the Apple Watch has never known since its launch.
On the other hand, no precise figure is given by the CEO while
Reuters had asked for details on this subject. But like
Usually, Apple prefers to remain vague in this case, it is no coincidence that
the Apple Watch is merged into the “Other” product category during
quarterly financial results published by the company.
