The Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset is notnot yet 100% compatible with the Find My app. This already allows iPhones or iPads to be easily found by their owner thanks to geolocation, in the event of theft. But this advantage is not offered with the new pointed frame, although we do not officially know why at the moment. It must be said that many sensors are already present under the hood, including a Bluetooth 5.3 transmitter as with the iPhone 15 Pro or the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
However, it turns out that Bluetooth is precisely the technology that allows iPhones and other Macs to be identified on a map by the Locate network. This is also compatible with other devices from competing brands, such as smart beacons marketed by the company Tile.
How does Find My work on Vision Pro?
The good news, however, is that the Vision Pro benefits from several other Locate features. Among these, we can notably cite the case ofactivation lock, also present on Apple Watch connected watches from the same manufacturer. If you are not familiar with this option, know that the principle is relatively simple since it consists of preventing a third party user from using your device when it is not in your possession.
With Find My on visionOS, you will also be able to remotely track your other Apple devices such as second-generation AirPods Pro or an iPhone SE. But regarding the Vision Pro, from a third-party device, it will not be possible to use theLost mode. The latter, as its name suggests, allows you to indicate that your object has been lost while adding a note on the locked screen, specifying your telephone number. On a tablet or mobile phone, it's very useful.
Put an AirTag in the carrying case
To try to find your Apple Vision Pro in the event of loss, we recommend that you discreetly install aAirTagin the carrying case. This is of course not the safest solution, but it will always be an opportunity to reduce the risk of losing a device which will still perhaps be worth nearly 4,000 euros when it is released in France.
AirTags are connected tags also marketed by Apple, withBluetoothinside and whose position is recognized via the same Locate network mentioned a little earlier. The advantage of these small devices is that a battery with a battery life of several months gives them great autonomy. While theVision Pro, if detached from its external battery, simply does not work. And even with the accessory in question, endurance rarely exceeds two hours. In this case, it is difficult to be able to rely on the broadcast of the Bluetooth signal to Locate…
- The Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset is not compatible with Apple geolocation
- This is most likely because the device only has very limited battery life.
- We advise you to install an AirTag in the carrying bag, to remedy this
