Images: She grabs a screwdriver to disassemble the iMac M3 and reveals its components

After the test of the iMac M3 carried out by our colleagues fromPresse-citron.net, it's iFixit's turn to tackle the device. The specialized site has managed to bring together all the tools necessary for its dismantling. Which is not an easy thing: in fact, Apple installs proprietary screws to assemble the product.

So, what's under the hood of this all-in-one computer? Let's take stock.

Few differences with the iMac M1

The main conclusion of this teardown carried out by iFixit is thatthe iMac M3is ultimately very similar tol’iMac M1. The processor has certainly changed, but this one is installed almost the same way. Right next to it, we find the RAM, which is soldered to the rest of the motherboard with a “SiP” (system on chip) arrangement. Many criticize this strategy because it does not allow you to add RAM sticks after purchasing the computer. Or else, you have to void the warranty. And when you know the price of repairs in the Apple Store, it's better to avoid them.

When detaching the screen from the rest of the chassis, which is essential to access the processor, iFixit also notes that the process is relativelyeasy. All you have to do is disconnect a few cables, and that's it. We have rarely seen it simpler at Apple, which has previously had the habit of sticking its panels to iPhones. This makes disassembly very complicated, especially when carried out by individuals.
