According to a new video test, many iPhones would benefit from better endurance after updating to iOS 16.3 in recent days. As a reminder, this has been available since Monday in final version, withits lot of new things, particularly in terms of personal data protection and support for the second generation HomePod.
As often, the YouTube channeliAppleByteswanted to compare this new version with the previous one in terms of battery. We learn thatthe iPhone 13 seems to be gaining some serious points, with a score of over 5,400 on Geekbench 4 compared to 4,990 with iOS 16.2, where the iPhone 12 also gains almost five hundred points. Almost all the models tested are more efficient with iOS 16.3: this is the case of the iPhone 11, the iPhone XR and the second generation iPhone SE. Only the iPhone 8 seems to be at half mast, going from 1,695 points to 1,677 points from one version to another.
The best result since last year
iAppleBytesunderlines: this is thebest performance obtained by the iPhones tested by the channel since the arrival of iOS 16. What conclusion should we draw from this? That iOS 16.3 does not restrict the autonomy of mobiles, at least under the conditions of the benchmark carried out here. Of course, it will be possible to get different figures at home, but the fact that almost all tested smartphones do better than under iOS 16.2 seems to confirm a certain trend.
As for the ignition duration, the iPhone 13 will have lasted a little longer here.nine o'clock, compared to less than six hours for the iPhone XR and less than three hours for the iPhone 8.
Some biases to take into account
Let us remember, however, that like other components, thebatteries wear outwith time. It is therefore essential to consult the state of health of it from the iPhone settings before deciding to carry out the update, or to replace the part with new equipment. Prices vary: for an iPhone 8, for example, you will have to pay fifty-five euros without AppleCare+ insurance. A price which can reach one hundred and nineteen euros withan iPhone 14 Pro Max, again without additional guarantee.
In addition, it is important to remember that the iPhones tested in this video are not fresh from the factory: this is another factor to take into account. The iPhone 8, in particular, is several years old. This could explain why its score is worse than the others: the battery has lived and does not necessarily offer the same performance.
