Does the iPhone 16 beat the 13 in photography?

Rear camera

As we mentioned above, the iPhone 16 features a new style for its camera, with the two sensors aligned vertically. This new arrangement allows Apple to launch “Camera Fusion” and provides access to spatial photos and videos.

The ultra-wide-angle sensor of the 16 is also entitled to amaximum resolution of 48 Mpx, compared to 12 Mpx on the iPhone 13. The main sensor is also 12 Mpx on the iPhone 13 compared to 48 Mpx for the iPhone 16.

And then, the iPhone 16 has abetter opening(ƒ/2.2) againstf/2.4 on the iPhone 13. In addition to spatial photos and videos, macro mode is arriving on the iPhone 16.

Finally, in optical zoom, the iPhone 16 supports x0.5, x1 and x2. The iPhone 13 is limited to x0.5 and x1.

In terms of photography, there is no doubt, the iPhone 16 has a big head start.

Action et Camera Control

In addition to better sensors, the iPhone 16 arrives withtwo new buttons compared to the iPhone 13. The first, the Action button, had already appeared on the iPhone 15 Pro last year. It replaces the ringer switch and can be configured according to the user's wishes.

The other button, which is the big novelty of the new generation, is the one called “camera control”. It allows you to take control of the camera application with a single press. Intelligent, this button is also used to slide into the settings to take the perfect shot as quickly as possible.

The iPhone 13, for its part, does not have these two controls. The phone still has a switch to mute your phone's ringer though.

And on video?

The iPhone 16 can do better with Action Mode, spatial and macro video recording, and Wind Noise Reduction and Audio Mix audio features.

Autonomy, charging and connectivity

We already tend to forget it, but one of the biggest changes in recent years regarding iPhones is the arrival of a universal charging port with USB-C. The Lightning was abandoned by Apple when the iPhone 15 arrived. It is therefore still possible to find phones with this connection, but to do so you have to turn to older models, iPhone 13 included.

When it comes to autonomy and charging, the iPhone 16 takes advantage of this new connection to get a head start. If both devices are compatible with MagSafe wireless charging, the iPhone 13 does not support 30 W unlike the iPhone 16. This fast charging capacity is felt.iPhone 16 can go from 0 to 50% battery in just 30 minutes with the right devices. This is also possible for the iPhone 13, but only with wired charging.

Autonomy

  • iPhone 16 :video playback (up to 10 p.m.), video streaming (up to 6 p.m.), audio playback (up to 80 h)
  • iPhone 13 :video playback (up to 7 p.m.), video streaming (up to 3 p.m.), audio playback (up to 75 h)

Prix

iPhone 16 :

  • 128 Go : 969 €
  • 256 Go : 1 099 €

iPhone 16: the start of a new era

The iPhone 16 is the first smartphone in a new cycle from Cupertino. The company presented Apple Intelligence in June 2024.

To date, only a few models are capable of supporting Apple Intelligence, the iPhone 16 is one of the chosen few, unlike the iPhone 13, which is far behind in the hierarchy at Apple.

iPhone 16 or iPhone 13: which should you buy in 2024?

Gone are the days when Apple offered a completely innovative smartphone every year. Today, the Cupertino company aims to convince owners of old iPhones, or Android smartphones, for a proper renewal.

Of course, there are still users ready to buy each new model. But on average, an iPhone user renews their smartphone every 2.5 years. The iPhone 13 fits perfectly into this box. If you have one and want to upgrade to the iPhone 16, now might be a good time.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a functional phone, with a good screen, a still high-end camera and the Apple ecosystem as a bonus, the iPhone 13 may very well satisfy you. This smartphone is increasingly affordable, and for less than 700 euros, it is impossible to find better under iOS. There remains the risk of not being able to update it for much longer under new versions of iOS. iOS 19 shouldn't be a problem. iOS 20, expected for 2026, neither a priori, even if this remains difficult to confirm. Don't expect to go beyond that with an iPhone 13 in your hands though.
