iOS 17: the 6 new CarPlay features not to be missed

Many features arrive with iOS 17, and today we have decided to return to those which concern the association of the platform with CarPlay. Available in many different vehicles, this system uses most of the basic options of the iPhone but with a more refined design, in order to be less distracting to the driver.

Here's what you need to remember.

1 – The support ofSharePlaywith Apple Music

With iOS 17, all iPhone users in the car cabin can control the playlist currently playing via Apple Music on CarPlay (see image above). There's no need for everyone to have a paid subscription to the streaming service: one is enough for the whole group.

As a reminder, Apple Music is available from 4.99 euros per month for the Voice package.

2 – Find where to charge your electric vehicle

With this, Apple Maps now allows you to display the availability of charging stations in real time on the CarPlay on-board screen. Here is the result, in video:

3 – Something new for messages

Thanks to the update to iOS 17, the interface for replying to a received message changes on CarPlay. Three shortcuts are available: one to reply, another to reread the content and a third to call the sender.

4 – New wallpapers

New wallpapers are also available with CarPlay in iOS 17, accessible from the settings. These backgrounds adapt to the theme of the operating system, depending on whether it is dark or light.

5 – Siri

Fifthly, the most attentive will probably have noticed thatit is now possible to call the CarPlay voice assistant without saying “Dis, Siri“but simply with the term “Siri", alone.

This change also concerns other Apple devices: Mac, iPad, iPhone, etc.

6 – Offline maps

Finally, note that as on iOS 17, CarPlay now allows you to view maps offline. It is also possible that the platform will automatically offer to download them if you plan to go to a place with poor network coverage, but this remains to be confirmed.
