The investment firm Susquehanna recently published a note for investors. The statements found there are surprising, they concern the release plan for the next iPhones.
According to the source, Apple would present new iPhones next September, all equipped with 5G. But there would be two types of models, one taking advantage of classic 5G, the other taking advantage of improved 5G, or 5G mmWave. This can reach speeds up to 10 times faster than current 4G LTE technology.
In addition, the document provided by Susquehanna specifies that the model with classic 5G would be equipped with an LCD panel, while the model with 5G mmWave would be equipped with an OLED panel. We can therefore count on the fact that the first would be the successor to the iPhone 11 and the second would constitute the evolution of the iPhone 11 Pro.
Delayed launch for the iPhone 12 Pro
And the release of this 5G mmWave iPhone could take place much later than September, the month that Apple usually chooses to put its new smartphones on shelves.
Indeed, the information presented by the source indicates an arrival for the month of December 2020 of this fast 5G OLED iPhone, or even for the beginning of 2021.
It would not be surprising to see the Cupertino company release its different iPhone models in two stages. This was already the case with the iPhone 8, released in September 2017, and the iPhone X, released a month later, although both were announced in September of the same year during the traditional back-to-school keynote.
But, as our colleagues at iMore point out, not seeing a full year without a new flagship iPhone taking over from the iPhone 11 Pro would be a real surprise.
In a recent report, for the renowned analysis Ming-Chi Kuo, 5G mmWave models would only be intended for certain parts of the globe where the technology will already be operational on the operator side. So, it is possible that a classic 5G iPhone 12 Pro will arrive in 2020, followed by a 5G mmWave iPhone 12 Pro a little later and for certain markets only.
Finally, Kuo also thinks that all the new iPhone models presented in September by Apple will be equipped with OLED panels, contrary to what the company claims. Susquehanna Company.
