Like every year, Apple is preparing to reveal the new version of its mobile operating system:iOS 18. On the menu, we already assume that apps like Freeform or Dictaphone could benefit from major changes. But it seems that it is indeed artificial intelligence that will be the star of the 2024 Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC).
WWDC is the show organized by Apple and where the new AI features of iOS 18 will certainly be revealed. Among these, the most notable would be a Siri with better conversational capabilities, a dedicated App Store as well as content generation with iWork. As of now, the developer has not confirmed any of this information, however. Caution therefore remains in order, and the announcements could be different on the big day. Until then, let's see what awaits us.
The expected new AI features
- Siri:integration with the OpenAI language modelto order your apps orally, offerbetter search resultsand better remember previous exchanges with you.
- Keynote: image generation by artificial intelligence, perhaps available on both iOS 18 and macOS 15, and certainly associated with an Alphabet algorithm or DALL-E.
- Pages: as with Keynote, Apple would like to offer generative AI within Pages. Here, however, it is text that could be inserted into a document, as can already be done with Google Docs.
- Safari: Safari could first of all equip itself with a navigation assistant powered by artificial intelligence. In addition, a tool to summarize an article currently being read could appear on Apple's proprietary browser.
- App Store: Apple would like a new section of the App Store dedicated solely to artificial intelligence. In short, it would be an additional category, as we already find one for games or one for Apple Vision Pro.
- Notes: iOS 18 should make it possible to generate written transcriptions of your voice memos recorded with the Dictaphone app. This content would then be integrated directly into the Notes app.
- Apple Music: suggestions mentioned the possibility of creating playlists automatically powered by artificial intelligence, according to your tastes and your past listening.
- Numbers: Apple's spreadsheet could suggest a formula based on a description of your needs. To get an idea of this value proposition, don't hesitate to test the alternative of Google Sheets or Sheet Formula.
- Spotlight: The cross-application search results provided by Spotlight would also be improved thanks to the AI of iOS 18. This will likely require providing full access to a lot of personal data.
- Messages: during oral dictation of text messages, Siri could guess the end of your sentences. In short, like in Gmail, autocompletion could save you time but also format, all without spelling or grammar errors.
- Emojis: Apple would allow, with iOS 18, to generate its own emojis using generative artificial intelligence. All you need to do is describe the emotion to represent, and as with Memoji, the system will take care of the rest.
- Photos: Apple's photo library would be equipped with new editing tools with AI. Among these, we can notably cite the case of an option to remove a subject from an image, for example a person or an object.
- Notifications: iOS 18 would allow you to generate summaries of your notifications using artificial intelligence.
- Health: new AI features are also expected for this app, but we do not yet know their content at the moment.
- Journal: artificial intelligence could analyze the words used in your diary, to guess your state of mind and record it accordingly.
- Xcode: like Microsoft GitHub Copilot, Xcode would be equipped with an AI suggesting which code snippets to use at what time, when developing a mobile app for iOS 18.
iOS 18 is looking more promising every day. Here‘s some of what you can expect:

Which iPhones will be compatible?
Unfortunately, while all iPhones compatible with iOS 17 will likely be compatible with iOS 18, this would not be the case for the AI features that come with it. It seems that only high-end mobiles are eligible. Either the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 15 Pro Max,the iPhone 16 Proand the iPhone 16 Pro Max. For iPads, we would have to rely on the presence of an Apple silicon chip under the hood, in order to have the right to artificial intelligence.
We do not yet know if the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will also be announced as compatible, or not. The same goes for the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, as well as their predecessors.
iOS 18 would process information locally
In all likelihood, on the other hand, at least the vast majority of personal information processed to power Apple's AI will be done locally. In other words, the calculations of the algorithm which analyzes your data will be carried out by the iPhone's processor, without leaving the latter's memory. But this statement should be considered with caution.
Indeed, in the past, Apple has already been singled out for not having respected its confidentiality commitments. What's more, according toother hallway noisesAll in all, they are also quite recent, data could still be sent to servers. But this would not be third-party hardware, in favor of devices designed by Apple and powered by its in-house chips.
When to discover these new features?
Apple should unveil iOS 18 and its new features with artificial intelligence during theWorldwide Developer Conference. This will be held from June 10 to 14, in California. The invitations have already been sent to the lucky ones. For others, it will be possible to follow the opening keynote live in our columns or on Apple's YouTube channel. iOS 18 should be announced available in beta for developers the same evening. The presentation will take place on June 10 at 7 p.m. (Paris time).
For the beta version for the general public, you would have to wait until July, againstSeptember for the final version. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are already available, and their successors will certainly arrive in September as well.
