Next year, Apple could offer an important new design feature. Indeed, according to rumors, the next series would not have a “Plus” model, since Apple would offer the iPhone 17 Air in place of this one. According to numerous sources, the iPhone 17 Air would not be a flagship, but rather an option for those who want to use an iPhone with a thinner design that stands out from recent models.
Recently, according to the MacRumors site, analyst Jeff Pu spoke about the design of this futureiPhone 17 Air. This corroborates rumors which suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will be around 6 mm thick. Therefore, this model would be thinner than the iPhone 6, released in 2014, which had a thickness of 6.9 mm.This is currently the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made. All other models that were released before the iPhone 6 have a thickness between 7.6mm and 12.3mm.And no model released after the iPhone 6 has been thinner than this one.
However, with a thickness of 6 mm, the iPhone 17 Air would not be the thinnest Apple product on the market, since the 13-inch version of the iPad Pro 2024 has a thickness of 5.1 mm.
What technical sheet for this ultra-thin model?
Because of its design, the iPhone 17 Air should have a fairly modest technical sheet, compared to the iPhone 17 Pro or the iPhone 17 Pro Max. And currently, there are already some rumors circulating about the features that this device could have. According to MacRumors, Jeff Pu previously reported that the iPhone 17 Air will have a 6.6-inch display, aluminum frame, FaceID facial recognition scanner, 48-megapixel single sensor on the back, 24-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies, 8 GB RAM, and compatibility with Apple Intelligence. Otherwise, this model could benefit from Apple's new A19 chip.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to arrive alongside the other models in the iPhone 17 series in September 2025. Otherwise, it is highly likely that before the release of this series, Apple will launch the iPhone SE 4, its next affordable iPhone (which would also be compatible with Apple Intelligence).
