According to information fromThe Vergecovered by numerous foreign media, Janneke Parrish was thanked by her management for having deleted applications from her phone. However, she was in fact one of the leading figures of the #AppleToo movement which denounced sexist behavior within the company. She is not the first to be entitled to such a fate:last September, Ashley Gjøvik also had to leave her job following other revelations.
Among the apps that Parrish is accused of deleting from her mobile, we find Robinhood, Pokémon GO and Google Drive. The behavior of the developer, who participated in the Apple Plans code, was therefore deemed to be in violation of Apple policy. Internally, some employees have since expressed their astonishment and believe that Parrish could have been fired for revealing certain information related to the #AppleToo scandal.
Defense engaged
Although Parrish did not wish to comment on the matter to journalists, she has already hired a lawyer to assert her rights. He was able to speak, ensuring that his client had indeed left Apple. Vincent P. White of the White, Hilferty and Albanese firm nevertheless specifies that he cannot provide additional details. It is also not known whether industrial action will be launched, as Gjøvik has done in the past.
Apple, for its part, did not react. It must be said that this mishap is a stain on its positioning in favor of “social justice“, whose arguments are regularly praised by management up to the CEO himself.Tim Cook recently highlighted his company's efforts in terms of teleworking, a crucial subject whose progress is nevertheless denounced by the #AppleToo movement.
Parrish s’exprime
Via her Twitter account, Janneke Parrish finally shared Zoë Schiffer's article on her dismissal. Her opinion is clear: the ex-employee thinks she was thanked for having “speak” rather than for having concealed possible evidence or deleted supposed confidential industrial files. It's difficult to know the end of the story, but we will probably hear about it again in the coming weeks.
There are consequences for speaking out. There are consequences for doing the right thing.
But we do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.#AppleToois about asking Apple to do better, to end systemic discrimination, abuse, and pay inequity.
Do the right thing.https://t.co/nhxFlflSvR
