Dropbox is preparing an overhaul of its apps: design change and new collaborative tools

Dropbox is for sure one of the best known and probably the most used Cloud storage services. It has managed to maintain a certain advantage over its competitors thanks to the very good ergonomics of its apps, but also very practical features and excellent file transfer speeds. But in this year 2019, and after already 11 years of good and loyal service, Dropbox willmake welcome changes to your apps, web, desktop and mobile:

The Dropbox teams worked to standardize the different apps, whether on mobile, desktop or internet. The changes will initially apply to the Dropbox web interface.

Here are the notable additions of this new version of the Cloud storage app:

  • it is possible to create, edit and share Google Docs or Sheets documents for example, but also Microsoft Office documents from Dropbox. The user also has the option of opening these files in their respective editor, at Google or Microsoft
  • ability to save website content directly to your Dropbox, as well as shortcuts to websites
  • new search function which can now have an eye on all its files, even those not downloaded, among others

Dropbox also hasnew collaborative work functions, with the advanced integration of professional tools, in particular various Adobe apps, but also Slack for exchanges, Atlassian for project management, or even Zoom for videoconferencing.

In particular, it is possible tolaunch a Slack chat directly from the Dropbox interface.

In addition, working together on files and folders is richer in functionality, including file descriptions, highlighting certain content or independent comment spaces for each content. Everything will obviously be synchronized and visible on all linked devices.

Dropbox has opened a beta testing program for these new features. It is possible to register here, in order to see, among other things, what the new version of the Dropbox web app will look like.
