iPhones are a hit right now, here are the figures

  • iPhones are the best-selling OLED mobiles at the moment, according to a study
  • The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is fifth in terms of market share
  • LTPO (adaptive refresh rate) technology is becoming more and more popular

Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has just unveiled its barometer ofmobiles OLEDthe most sold at the start of the year. We discover that since March, it seems to be the iPhone 14 which has proven to be number one, a position which should be confirmed in April and May. Within the leading quintet, we also find the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max for headed devices, alongside a single competing brand device: the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The latter can therefore be considered as the most serious alternative to the Cupertino standard-bearer, with a slightly larger screen: count 6.8 inches compared to 6.7 inches forthe iPhone 14 Pro Max. RAM is also better provided, with no less than 8 or 12 GB of RAM from Samsung depending on the model, compared to “only” 6 GB for an iPhone 14 Pro Max. The prices are relatively different with a price of 1,479 euros for the iPhone with 128 GB of internal storage (basic version) compared to 1,419 euros for the Korean with double the space.

The beautiful part of the LTPO

The DSCC study also tends to prove that the technologyLTPOis present on more and more high-end smartphones. This solution, which also powers the Apple Watch panel, makes it possible toadapt the refresh rate according to the user's needs. An iPhone 14 Pro Max will thus reduce the frame rate when it is only a question of displaying the icons of the new locked screen, but will be able to broadcast one hundred and twenty images per second during the most demanding video game games.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra also benefits from an LTPO screen, with a definition of 1,440 by 3,088 pixels for a density of 500 ppi. All protected by a Gorilla Glass Victus window, also chosen by Apple forits iPhone 14 Plus, its “classic” iPhone 14,” ses iPhone 14 Pro et ses iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Which iPhones sell the most?

Still according to the statistics collected by DSCC, after the iPhone 14 (11%), it would be the iPhone 14 Pro which would have been the most sold with almost 9% market share, followed closely by the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 13 (8% each). The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra brings up the rear with just over 5% market share.

Soon, however, the trend could be reversed, with the flagships of the Asian firm having just been released where the iPhones all date from September 2022.
