The 16-inch MacBook Pro disassembled reveals a not-so-new keyboard

Apple launched a highly anticipated 16-inch MacBook Pro last week, not just because of its new screen size, but also because it features a new “scissor” keyboard that supposedly doesn't have the same problems. than its predecessor.

iFixit, the Apple product dissection specialist, disassembled a 16-inch MacBook Pro, to see exactly what has changed with this keyboard, but also inside the case of this new MacBook Pro.

iFixit notes the keyboard's keys are easy to remove, which should make it easier for users to clean the keyboard, instead of having to take it to the store to get an entire keyboard replacement.

The keys are the same size as the Magic Keyboard, moreover it is possible to use the latter's white keys instead of the keys on the new 16-inch MacBook Pro. Note, however, that the keys on the Magic Keyboard are slightly thicker.

The two keyboards are very similar, the scissor mechanism of the separate Magic Keyboard is just slightly thicker than the new Magic Keyboard on this 16-inch MacBook Pro. iFixit believes that this keyboard feels much more robust and durable than the butterfly keyboard of older models.

It seems that this new keyboard solves the main problem with the old machines, but it will take some time in the hands of users, to see if this good first impression is confirmed.

Finally, iFixit observed that there is excess space inside the 16-inch MacBook Pro's case, suggesting that Apple could refine the size of upcoming 16-inch models, but also make it user-replaceable. the RAM and SSD which are currently soldered to the machine.
