This time it's done. After several months of beta testing on a limited audience, Microsoft is today launching the public and open beta of its Xbox Cloud Gaming. Concretely, Mac, iPhone and iPad users will therefore be able to benefit from this service via support by Safari.
Microsoft promises reduced latency
Remember that this gives them access to a catalog of more than a hundred console games. The power of your device doesn't matter since the game is managed remotely by Microsoft machines. However, you will need to have a good, high quality connection of at least 10 Mbps and a Bluetooth or USB controller. Finally, iPhones and iPads must run iOS 14.4 or higher.
In a blog post, Microsoft presented this new offering: “Starting today, Xbox Cloud Gaming is available to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members with Windows 10 PCs and Apple phones and tablets, via browser, in 22 countries. If you're a member or want to become a member, simply head to xbox.com/play on Microsoft Edge, Chrome, or Safari on your PC or mobile device to start playing hundreds of games from the Xbox Game Pass library .»
The Redmond firm adds to extol the merits of Xbox Cloud Gaming:
We're making significant improvements to the overall experience: Xbox Cloud Gaming is now powered by custom Xbox Series X hardware. We've upgraded Microsoft data centers around the world with the fastest, most powerful Xbox hardware to bring you faster load times, improved frame rates, and a next-generation gaming experience . To ensure minimal latency and optimal quality on as many devices as possible, we will stream content in 1080p and up to 60 frames per second.
Latency is indeed a fundamental issue because if the reaction time between your command and the execution on the screen is too slow, the gaming experience can be truly ruined. Finally, let us point out that this technology will be available to all those who have a subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which is marketed at the price of 12.99 euros in France.
