AirPods Pro reportedly smell like blueberries…

Normally AirPods Pro go in the ears, not anywhere else, but not all users of Apple's new wireless headphones have gotten the memo. Indeed, it may have been following a drunken evening that a user made a strange discovery about their AirPods Pro.

Specifically, he discovered after sniffing his AirPods Pro that they smelled like blueberries. He mentioned his discovery on the MacRumors forums, since the virus “my AirPods Pro smell like blueberries” has spread on Reddit and Apple forums.

Many users, including us, have had the experience of smelling the AirPods Pro, and we indeed have the impression that they give off a fruity smell akin to blueberries or other fruits (not all of us have the same sensitivity to odors).

But where does this smell come from?

According to experts, this is linked to the materials used in the plastic manufacturing process of AirPods Pro. According to David Gossman, a chemist, this smell comes from esters, a chemical component, some forms of which are used in perfumes and essential oils.

Esters are often associated with fruity smells, such as pineapple, banana, but also blueberries. This chemist also mentions that other chemical components used in plastic emit a fruity odor, such as aldehyde.

Some manufacturers use these chemicals in their products so that they give off a pleasant smell. However, we do not know whether this was a deliberate act by Apple or an accident.

Now you will know why someone sniffs their AirPods Pro!
