With iOS 9: HomeKit is enriched and frees itself from Apple TV

We were initially waiting for news
of the Apple TV during the conference on Monday and finally, as the rumors
Recent reports indicated that it was not there. However, if Apple
TV was conspicuous by its absence, “Homekit” home automation was mentioned and what
what we learned is particularly interesting.

Indeed, with iOS 9, developers will be able to transfer
home automation controls via iCloud, rather than to their own server. That
will allow access to HomeKit from anywhere and without Apple TV. But the new features
don't stop there:

iOS 9 brings several new features for Homekit. The most impressive
of them is certainly what Apple calls the 'Triggers' which we
could be translated as triggers. In practice, the user can trigger
a scene involving several elements. We can thus imagine,
turn on the entrance light, open the garage door and turn it back on
heating while the user simply arrives at home. The big one
new is that these scenes will become even more precise and that it will be
possible to program a completely different scenario depending on whether it is 8 a.m.
morning or 11 p.m.

The other major novelty is the arrival of the Apple Watch in the home
in parallel with that of Siri who can now easily control the
devices. The Apple Watch will play its own role: we can imagine
unlock the front door when the watch enters the range of the
Bluetooth connection of the lock, even if the iPhone is not in the
surroundings.

Finally, in the HomeKit device like iOS 9, the Apple TV loses its
importance. Whereas with iOS 8 it was imperative to use Apple TV
to control your HomeKit accessories when you are not at home,
the opening of iCloud to accessory manufacturers should make it possible to
pass from the small box.
