According to new figures just published, the iPhone 15 Pro is on average 24% faster in 5G thanthe iPhone 14 Pro. The tests which made it possible to obtain these figures were carried out with several operators, in order to refine the resulting average. The providers in question are AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. Or the equivalents of Orange, Bouygues Télécom or SFR, across the Atlantic and in terms of market share.
If the new models are more powerful than the previous ones, it is mainly thanks to their improved technical sheet. This thus gives pride of place to a Qualcomm Snapdragon X70 chip, for 5G. This generation is faster than the X65 modem, of the same brand and integrated under the hood of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Energy savings are also greater.
It's not easy
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can connect to 5G via frequency bands below 6 GHz. But you will of course need to have an associated mobile plan. However, in France, subscriptions of this type are often more expensive than those limited to 4G.
Furthermore, it is common knowledge that the 5G network is still struggling to develop in France. The number of antennas is thus still quite small, while customers are still quite rare among individuals.
Choosing a 5G compatible SIM card for your iPhone 15 Pro is therefore done with full knowledge of the facts. In large cities, the mesh should be available without problem. But for rural areas, it is better to look at the official coverage maps of the different operators to avoid unpleasant surprises.
What is the maximum throughput to be achieved with the iPhone 15 Pro?
In theory, 5G allows documents to be downloaded at up to ten gigabytes per second – but only under the best conditions.
On the iPhone 15 Pro, our source of the day measured no less than 300.92 megabytes per second in data downloads with T-Mobile (maximum measurement). Compared to 28.72 megabytes per second for sending with Verizon (same).
For comparison, in the same configuration, the iPhone 15 Pro reaches 245.69 megabytes per second and 24.77 megabytes per second respectively.
To transfer data, it is also possible to go throughthe new USB-C socket, which replaces the Lightning port present since 2012 on iPhone. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro are faster than the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, with USB 3 connectivity versus USB 2 for the most affordable phones.
In short:
- 5G is faster on iPhone 15 Pro than on iPhone 14 Pro
- But not everyone will be able to benefit from it: the network must cover you
- iPhone 15 Pros can download up to 300.92 megabytes per second on 5G
