New M1 Macs can have up to 6 external displays

During the presentation evening« One more thing », Apple has not dwelled on the external display support capabilities for these new MacBook Air, Pro and Mac mini. Indeed, if the three models greatly outperform their predecessors in terms of performance, thanks to the famous M1 chip, it seems that the new computers from Cupertino have an Achilles heel.

In fact, the Mac mini only supports 2 external screens, which is less than its old version running with an Intel processor. For theMacBook Air et Prothe observation is the same. Sharing to a single external screen is possible, compared to two on older versions.

Despite everything, this regression from Apple should not really bother the majority of users. Very often, they do not use an external screen, or only one in the majority of cases, which is still possible with new Macs.

But for those who really want to have multiple screens around their new Mac, it's possible. YouTuber Ruslan Tulupov uploaded a video this week where he connects up to 6 external screens to his new generation Mac mini.

To achieve this little feat, the videographer used Displaylinks as well as a docking station which he then connected tohis Mac mini. A somewhat special configuration, but which offers a very good result. Ruslan said he was very surprised by the performance of these additional screens, even when he used very demanding software like Final Cut Pro.

The only downside to this installation is its cost. Not counting the price of the screens, each DisplayLink will cost you around a hundred euros, enough to make you think a little before building your own set-up with five or six screens.
