The Apple ID could change its name, we explain why

Apple is reportedly about to make a name change around“Apple ID”. Indeed, the Apple brand is reportedly considering the possibility of renaming this functionality to “Apple account” for greater clarity. According to information from MacRumors on this subject, internal discussions are well advanced and the name change could take place later in the year.

iOS 18, the big change

In its article, the specialized information site explains that the change of name of the Apple ID could be done at the same time as the release of iOS 18, at the start of the next school year. System applications like tweaks should be allowed size changes to support this change.

Examples of “Apple account” already exist on the Apple website, particularly in the context of the expression “Apple account balance”. For the moment the reasons which could lead Apple to change the Apple ID name are not known butthe “revolution” promised for iOS 18should not be foreign to this change in marketing around the iPhone.

Anything but a first

This is not the first time in its history that Apple has considered changing the name of an iconic iPhone feature. The Apple brand always has third-party names available for its features, the Cupertino company's marketing teams always keep several versions available to adapt if necessary.

Recently this was the case with visionOS which had several names during internal testing before this final version arrived. The operating system of the Apple Vision Pro was named realityOS, XrOS and finallyvisionOS. Regarding the arrival of an “Apple account” the Apple brand could take advantage of this name change to launch new features and add capabilities to the current Apple ID.
