During the presentation of the iPhone 16, Apple highlighted itsnew Camera Control button. This innovation allows you to quickly launch the camera and capture photos in the blink of an eye. After a few days of use, however, some users point out itslack of practicality, especially on the iPhone 16 Plus.
BGR editor Chris Smith recently expressed his frustration. Left-handed, he naturally holds his iPhone with his left hand. Problem: The Camera Control button is on the opposite side of his thumb. He must therefore contort himself to reach it with his middle or ring finger. He explains:
Imagine this: you're on the go and you need to take a quick photo of something around you. You press the camera control button, but you can't take the photo with the hand you're holding the iPhone 16 Plus with. This means you have to use your other hand to tap the screen and take the photo. So… what is the camera control button for?
An unnatural position
This positioning forces Chris to adopt a less than ergonomic grip. He struggles to perform precise gestures such as zooming or accessing camera settings. To do this, he must use his other hand, which goes against the very idea of Camera Control, which is supposed to facilitatefast one-handed photo capture.
The concern is accentuated byprotective shells. Their cutout around the button makes it even more unpleasant to use. Finger pressure on the plastic can quickly become uncomfortable. For the moment, official Apple cases do not offer a solution to this problem.
Limited alternatives
There are, of course, alternatives. One can invoke the camera with the Camera Control, then capture the photo with the volume button. But this complicates handling and slows down the process. Another option would be to assign the trigger to another button, like the Action button. However, this would mean giving up Camera Control completely.
In the end, despite the initial enthusiasm, Chris finds himself underutilizing this new feature. He continues to adjust his photo settings directly on the screen. A frustrating situation for a supposed featurerevolutionize photography on iPhone. Apple will undoubtedly have to revise its copy to make it more universal and suitable for all users!
