Wearables are a very profitable sector for Apple. The company was in fact able to generate approximately twelve billion dollars in revenue thanks to this segment, during the period spanning between the beginning of October and the end of December 2023. Sales which, however, do not take into account the number ofVision Proelapsed, since the device was made available in the United States just a few hours after the publication of Cupertino's latest financial results. On the other hand, the group’s “wearables” category takes into account accessories such as Apple Watch connected watches or AirPods wireless headphones.
And indeed, the latter have just appeared once again inPower On, the weekly newsletter ofMark Gurman. The opportunity to look back at the potential improvements on the way for the famous pair, which quite simply presents themselves as the most popular Bluetooth headsets in the world. The email sent by the journalist also attempts to tell us a little more about Apple's future connected glasses, and about a smart ring prototype from the brains of the same manufacturer. However, don't expect to discover stolen photos: these new features are still far from seeing the light of day for the general public.
To begin with, these are the AirPods wireless headphones which could be improved shortly, incorporating brand new sensors under the hood, including cameras. Mark Gurman believes that such a product has actually been under study at Apple since last year. In reality, however, we know that new components of this kind have already been seen previously in patents filed by Apple with the USPTO (institution responsible for validating patents to protect the intellectual property of companies, in the United States and equivalent). of the INPI in France).
Lenses, for their part, should not logically be there to help you capture your most beautiful shots. On the other hand, it is easy to imagine how AirPods equipped with this technology could, for example, scan our environmentin three dimensions in search of the most realistic possible modeling of the latter. LiDAR and other similar parts on board the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset already allow this to improve the rendering of AR apps. Wireless headphones, for their part, could use it to map a room, tooptimize the sound rendering according to its volumes. Ask your sound engineer: he will explain the principle to you.
Samsung and its ring have competition
With AirPods equipped with a camera, Apple could very soon also release a smart ring. Like the sensors of wireless headphones, this could embed different systems allowing the collection of data linked to thewell-beingof the user. We can then easily imagine how the latter could, by being listed within the appHealth, serve as a database to be analyzed by professionals in the field. Doctors already explain that they rely on the statistics recorded by Apple Watches, in certain very specific cases. For example, wearables have already made it possible to detect rather serious heart diseases.
Apple, however, is clearly not the only one to attack the connected ring sector. Among its potential future competitors in this sector, we can cite the case of the Oura brand, perhaps the best known. Its third editionin particular offers users the ability to measure their blood oxygen level. Other features of what will perhaps be called “Apple Ring” are expected, such as an integrated heart rate sensor or the possibility of recording your number of steps thanks, among other things, to the accelerometer and the gyroscope .
Apple Glass, again and again
Finally, Mark Gurman also discussed the case of Apple Glass this weekend. We know that the Vision Pro perhaps foreshadows the arrival of this future mount, which will allow us to take advantage of our usual apps but in augmented reality. The headset is therefore too uncomfortable for long-term use today. But connected glasses, much lighter, could succeed whereGoogle et ses Glasshave failed. However, some assure that Cupertino could want to differentiate between its VR solutions and those limited to augmented reality; you will therefore have to wait to verify it.
Mark Gurman also goes in this direction, explaining that Apple could first of all present us with a simple pair of glasses enhanced with a few features such as the possibility of taking photos or managing the playback of a track listened to with Spotify. This is already what the alternative pair of Meta, designed in collaboration with the Ray-Ban brand, already offers.
Which of these three products are you looking forward to the most?
- Apple may be preparing a pair of connected glasses
- An Apple connected ring may also be in the pipeline
- Apple would like to add health sensors to AirPods, as well as a camera
